Our program equips you with deep expertise in:

  • Smart Road and Transport Infrastructure: Learn about the latest technologies and methodologies that are shaping modern traffic and road systems, including sensor integration, real-time monitoring, and digital asset management.
  • Computational Modeling: Gain hands-on experience with simulation tools and numerical methods for infrastructure analysis and performance forecasting.
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM): Master the use of BIM across the asset lifecycle – from design to construction to maintenance – with a focus on interoperability and sustainability.
  • Digitalization in Pavement Engineering: Understand how digital processes, AI, and data driven approaches are transforming traditional engineering practices.

Program Highlights

  • Joint Degree: Earn a Master’s degree from two of Germany’s most prestigious technical universities  – TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen.
  • Hybrid Learning: Enjoy the flexibility of a study model that combines in-person teaching and online formats.
  • Collaborative Projects: Work on real-world challenges in interdisciplinary teams during your studies.
  • Industry Connections: Benefit from close ties with the Federal Highway and Transport Research Institute (BASt), the DFG-funded collaborative research center SFB/TRR 339, and A+S Consult GmbH.
  • English-taught Program: Designed for international students aiming for global careers in civil and digital engineering.

  • The Master's program IDEAS is designed with a hybrid teaching model that connects students at two locations: Dresden and Aachen.
  • Half of the students will be located in Dresden, the other half in Aachen. All academic lectures (except for German language courses) are given in a hybrid format, meaning that when a lecture is held in-person at one university, it is streamed live for students at the other.
  • This ensures equal access to high-quality teaching, regardless of location, encourages collaboration across both campuses and brings together expertise of TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen.

Career Opportunities & Industry Integration

Graduates of this program are highly qualified for careers in:

Public infrastructure authorities

International engineering and consulting firms

Sustainability consulting and environmental planning

Digital twin and BIM solution providers

Transportation research and innovation agencies

Smart city development initiatives

You’ll gain industry insight through guest lectures, excursions, and hands-on projects — all of which help prepare you for leadership roles in the digital transformation of infrastructure.

Learn German – Strengthen Your Profile

While the program is taught in English, you’ll benefit from mandatory German language courses that help prepare you for the German job market. By the end of your studies, you’ll have the skills to work in German-speaking teams, companies and public authorities.

No prior German knowledge? No problem. As part of the program, students have the opportunity to learn German from scratch through semester-long language courses as well as intensive classes during the semester breaks. These courses are designed to support your studies and daily life in Germany. By the End of the program, students are expected to reach at least a B1 level, enabling them to communicate confidently in both academic and professional settings.
