Why this programme?

Germany, being one of largest developed countries and economies in the world, is currently facing a growing shortage of skilled labour force –  a trend that is particularly critical in the field of digitalization in pavement and transport engineering. This issue demonstrates itself as a continuously increasing gap between unemployment rates and open job positions in civil engineering since 2015.

Experts predict that this tendency will be exponentially increasing in the future due to the fact that there is a high demand of modernizing the existing road infrastructure and adding more capacity while at the same time being future-proof and ensuring efficiency, consistency and sufficiency. Therefore, developing sustainable and innovative technologies and providing specialized labour force in the field of pavement and transport engineering is crucial. Indeed, the German government acknowledged this issue and approved a 500 billion € fund to be spent for the German infrastructure in coming ten years.
